Around East Texas: Pollard Presents ' Sing & Ring III '
Pollard United Methodist Church, 3030 Copeland Road, will present “Sing & Ring III” for children, grades K-5, from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 4-7. The musical “camp” is free and registration can be done by e-mail or phone.

“This is a great way to get children to think of church music as more than a collection of musical pieces and performances,” said David Luna, director of music and fine arts at the church. “Music is a great way to express the Christian faith. We emphasize reading and athletics to children, but you’re not going to sing kids football plays at bedtime. Through song they can remember scripture. Put theology to a catchy tune, and they’ll remember it.”

It’s also a great way to introduce children to music, he said.

“There are a million ways to express faith and at least we can expose kids to something they might not otherwise have a chance at. We strive to give biblical foundations for musical expression in worship, while incorporating the basics of good musical tone and foundations of musical education.”

The general schedule will be 9 to 9:30 a.m., warm up and assembly. From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. will be Tone Chimes and Chorus, in two groups. A snack break will be held at 10:30 a.m.

From 11 a.m. noon, the Tone Chimes and Chorus groups will swap students and continue.

There are 15 children already signed up for the class, Luna said.

“Parents, please prayfully consider attending,” said Luna. “We trust is will be well worth the time to come.”

To register by the Sept. 31 deadline, call Luna at 903-597-2571 or by e-mail to davidluna@pollardumc.com. Or visit the church office and fill out a registration form.
