' Gospel ' Event Explodes Into East Texas Monday
“Gospel Explosion 2008,’’ featuring Trin-I-Tee 5:7, the East Texas Youth Choir, George Faber and Booker T, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Harvey Convention Center, officials announced.
The concert is sponsored by the Greater St. Mary Baptist Church and the Greater Hopewell Central District Scholarship Fund and will be hosted by syndicated radio personality Walt “Baby’’ Love.
Others scheduled to perform include Monnie Pilgrim, Wanda Allen and the Celestial Singers, Deborah Hammonds and the Rev. Marcus Jackson.
Tickets are $22 in advance and $30 at the door. Proceeds from the concert will go to fund scholarships for East Texas area high school seniors.
The concert will also be the kick off to the 93rd annual State Congress for the Missionary Baptist General Convention, scheduled Monday-Thursday at the convention center.
Deborah Hubbard is the convention coordinator and Dr. Michael K. Mast is the host pastor.
Ticket locations include M&M’s Record Shop and One Stop Barber Shop in Tyler; Gabriel’s Men’s Wear in Longview and Sound City in Marshall.
