July 24: Negative List
I agree with Nathan Green (East Texas Mailbox, July 16) regarding the performance of the Republican Congress and President Bush: they can't get anything right!
However, if anyone thinks electing Democrats will fix anything, where have they been the past 30 years? We were fortunate former President Bill Clinton didn't do much of anything for eight years, and the reasonably good Reagan years continued until President Bush (the second) was elected.
Republicans may not be trying to blame the Democratic majority in Congress, but neither party has demonstrated any interest in maintaining our standard of living.
Homeland Security, FEMA, air marshals, airport inspectors, Iraq, Afghanistan, global warming, catering to environmentalists, faith-based initiative, mortgage foreclosures, not using our own natural resources, etc., have collectively managed to burden our country with an astronomical load of debt.
Both Republicans and Democrats are responsible, and electing either of the presidential candidates will hardly fix our problems. John McCain is no bargain, but I have to vote for the lesser of two evils; just like I voted for Bush twice!
So, go ahead and vote the Democratic ticket. You'll deserve whatever that brings to our failing government: no drilling, free handouts, no second amendment, and the negative list goes on. Good luck!
