Lamar American Stops East For Majors Crown
By SCOTT BEDGOOD
Staff Writer

Ramon Gonzales and Reid Garrett combined for a no-hitter to lead Lamar American to a 7-0 win over Tyler East National Tuesday to clinch the Texas East State Major League Championship Tuesday at Faulkner Park.

Lamar American advances to the Southwestern Regional in Waco.

Gonzales struck out seven in 5 1/3 innings of work. Gonzales had only allowed three base runners in the game when Garrett came in to close out the final two outs of the contest.

Lamar jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning on only one hit.

Tyler East’s four errors contributed to the four runs scored in three innings, as Patrick Mahomes battled on the mound for Tyler East.

But it was Cameron Boudreaux’s three-run home run in the fourth inning that broke the game open for Lamar.

Boudreaux, who had struck out in his previous two at-bats, sent a 2-1 pitch from Mahomes over the left-centerfield wall to put the game out of reach for Tyler.

Mahomes struck out six in 3 2/3 innings of work, but it was smart base running and effective sacrifice bunting that swung the game in the favor of Lamar.

Trace Reed followed Mahomes to the mound.

Stone Garrett also contributed to the Lamar cause notching two hits, scoring a run and laying down an RBI sacrifice squeeze bunt.

Tyler East needed a win on Tuesday to force another game today in the double-elimination tournament.
