Dolly Should Increase Chance of Showers in East Texas
Tropical Storm Dolly should increase shower chances and lower temperatures slightly at mid-week. Monday afternoon, she was centered about 670 miles southeast of Tyler. The storm’s maximum sustained winds were 50 mph. Dolly will likely intensify to hurricane strength Tuesday, and make landfall sometime Wednesday near Brownsville.

Winds became light and variable over East Texas Monday, in part due to the influence of the storm’s outer fringe circulation. Otherwise, Monday was sunny and hot, with a couple of isolated thunderstorms near the Texas/Louisiana border. The heaviest of these thunderstorms was near San Augustine at 6:30 p.m., and was likely producing wind gusts to near 40 mph.

Monday’s temperatures averaged a degree or so warmer than those of Sunday, and about 4 degrees above normal. Readings between Tuesday and Thursday should lower by a couple of degrees each day.

Low temperatures Monday morning were slightly higher than Sunday’s, and ran from near 70 in the east to the high 70s in the west. Low readings should be similar Tuesday, with slight lowering for Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Afternoon high readings Monday were from the middle 90s to near 100 near Sunday’s. High readings should drop a couple of degrees daily between Tuesday and Thursday.
