Outside a few widely scattered showers over the southern counties, East Texas was again typically warm and dry on Friday.

Warm and dry weather should continue through the weekend and into early next week, with a chance for showers beginning at mid-week.

The showers of Friday afternoon were southeast of a Wills Point-El Dorado, Ark. line, and had areal coverage of under 5 percent.

They were cause by an upper air low over the Western Gulf of Mexico, whose trough line extended northeastward into Southeast Texas and Northwest Louisiana.

Otherwise, upper air high pressure persisted, and will until next Tuesday or Wednesday when it should weaken and shift northwestward. On Friday, there were two centers: one over the Southeastern United States, and the other over Arizona, with a slight weakness in the ridge over East Texas.

Friday’s temperatures ran near Thursday’s, and were near normal. Similar readings are likely Saturday through Monday.

Low readings Friday morning were near Thursday’s, and ran from the middle 60s in the east to the middle 70s in the west. Similar low temperatures are likely Saturday and Sunday, with possible slight warming for Monday.

Afternoon high readings were also near Thursday’s, running from the middle 90s to near 100. Saturday and Sunday high readings should be similar, with slight lowering possible Monday.

Skies were fair overnight with some fair weather cumulus resulting in partly cloudy conditions Friday afternoon.

Winds on Friday were light and southerly, with similar winds likely Saturday through Monday.

Tyler’s highest sustaining wind Friday was southwesterly at 13 mph with a peak gust of 17mph and an average velocity of 5.5 mph. Thursday’s average wind velocity was 5.2 mph.

Friday’s average relative humidity was 58 percent, with similar values likely daily through Monday. Thursday’s average was 51 percent.

Tyler’s high temperature of 97 came at 4:27 p.m., following the day’s low of 71 at 6:44 a.m.
