John Tyler Teacher Named Educator Of Year
The Junior Achievement of Tyler named Sharon Bailey, a John Tyler High School teacher, Educator of the Year.

In June, Ms. Bailey was inducted into the Junior Achievement Tyler Business Hall of Fame for her dedication to careers in education, according to a statement from Tyler ISD. She has volunteered with Junior Achievement for more than 10 years.

According to the Web site for the Junior Achievement of Tyler, by partnering business and education, Junior Achie-vement recruits volunteers to facilitate economics-oriented lessons for students in K-12. Volunteers become role models to students.

In the “Ready, Set, Teach” class that Ms. Bailey teaches, students are put into a student- teaching type setting by being required to volunteer for JA. While volunteers for JA are typically adults from the business world, Ms. Bailey helps high school students interested in the education field get first-hand experience teaching elementary students.

Ms. Bailey said of being named Educator of the Year, “It’s a very high honor. It means so much to me coming from the community.”

“I just enjoy the students being successful in those classrooms,” she said.
