July 16: Improve Efficiency
I noticed our Solid Waste truck drives down the street in one direction and then a few minutes later, it drives down it again the other direction to allow the mechanical arm to lift the containers into the truck for emptying.

I think the citizens of Tyler would gladly be willing to cooperate with the city to save diesel fuel. If the city would create a map that assigned one side of each residential street as the "Container Side" so residents who live on the other side of that street would roll their containers across the street ... the trucks would only have to make one pass down each street.

And, we should put the containers about 2 feet apart so the trucks could reach both containers in one stop. Since the most expensive art of operating the truck is getting it from a dead stop to 10 mph, we could eliminate hundreds of stops each day, saving a lot of fuel and money.

I've been very proud of Tyler for the fiscal responsibility of our leadership in the past, and I think the citizens of Tyler would gladly do their part to move the efficiency of our city.
