I am disheartened and confused as to why the Republican Party of Smith County would even consider taking applications for the late Precinct 2 Constable Frank Creath's place on the November ballot.

During the primary, Todd Thoene was the only other candidate who ran and at that time received 43 percent of the votes. So why is the Republican Party now considering all applicants, regardless of their background and experience?

If they are not going to do the responsible thing and appoint Todd Thoene, then the only right thing to do is have a special election and allow the voters to make the decision.
