Tyler Collects $2.84M In Sales Tax Revenue
The city of Tyler received a July sales tax revenue allocation of $2.84 million, 9.18 percent more than the $2.6 million it received in July 2007 and a 7.26 percent increase over 2007 year-to-date figures.
“We have continued to see strong sales tax returns despite what we are hearing about retail sales elsewhere in the nation,” said Mark McDaniel, city manager designate. “These strong collections are just further evidence of the resilience of Tyler as a diverse regional market.”
Tyler’s allocation was part of $467.8 million in July sales tax allocations the Texas Comptroller’s Office sent to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. According to information from the office, allocations to cities totaled $311.9 million, up 2.6 percent from last year. The allocations represent sales that occurred in May and were reported to the comptroller’s office in June.
The two other largest Smith County cities also fared well in their July allocations. Lindale received $169,071, a 10.2 percent increase over last July. Whitehouse’s allocation totaled $44,138, a 0.65 percent increase.
Most of the other larger East Texas cities saw increases, although some that normally see increases saw July’s allocation fall short of last year’s. The following list shows, in order, the city, July’s allocation and the July 2007 allocation:
