Cats Suspected as Culprits in Tuesday House Fire in Arp
ARP — Fire investigators believe a Tuesday morning house fire may have been started by a chemical mixture.
Smith County Assistant Fire Marshal Marilynn Wilson said the fire at 14062 Farm-to-Market Road 15 this morning could have been started by two cats knocking over chemicals, causing a reaction.
“I’m not sure and I have to get back in there and do some more digging around, but that is what it appears to be at this time,” she said.
Wilson said the homeowner is in the hospital, but another occupant left the home 15 minutes prior to the fire and that the person was in a storage area where numerous chemicals were kept.
She added the two cats were left in the room and have not been found since the fire.
