I read a "blurb" about Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison announcing a grant of $150,000 to help Dallas curb violent crime and drug use.

Talk about a waste of time and money. What are they going to do, pass out fliers asking folks to be "good" and "behave themselves?" This type of federal grant is used primarily for our elected officials to let the "folks back home" know they are not forgotten. You want to spend money that might do some good? How about spending millions on a campaign to eliminate the bad name of those who call the police and report those who sell drugs and commit crimes that turn our neighborhoods into war zones? "Rat," "Snitch" and other such names should be a badge of honor, not one to be ashamed of.

When the general public understands the idea that being a criminal is something to be ashamed of, not something to be proud of, crime will go down dramatically. Put the money where it will do some good.
