Temperatures Across East Texas Reach Season Highs
Upper air high pressure and a southwest wind sent the mercury well into the 90s in the area Saturday afternoon, with slightly lower temperatures and a chance for rain with a cold front forecast through the region Sunday.
Tyler’s high of 98 was the warmest of the season thus far. For the first time this season, some area stations reached 100 degrees. Woodville, Terrell, and Crockett reported the century mark for a maximum Saturday.
Skies were fair overnight and Saturday morning, and became partly cloudy during the afternoon. Saturday’s temperatures ran about 2 degrees warmer than Friday’s and about 4 degrees above normal. Readings Sunday and Monday should drop by a couple of degrees each day.
Low temperatures Saturday morning were in the 70s at all stations. Similar low temperatures are likely Sunday, with lower readings for Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Afternoon highs should drop by 3-5 degrees daily on Sunday and again Monday. Winds Saturday blew at 5-15 mph, with winds likely to shift into the northwest Sunday northeast Monday, and east Tuesday. Velocities should run 5-10 mph each day.
Tyler’s highest sustaining wind Saturday was southerly at 17 mph with a peak gust of 23 mph, and an average velocity of 11.2 mph. Friday’s average wind velocity was 11.0 mph.
Saturday’s average relative humidity was 58 percent, with slightly higher values likely Sunday, and lower values for Monday and Tuesday. Friday’s average was also 58 percent.
Measurable rain fell nowhere in the area Saturday. Tyler’s high came at 5:56 p.m., following the day’s low of 76 at 7:06 a.m.
