28 Participate In Free Youth Tennis Program
Twenty-eight youth tennis players participated in the Free Summer Youth Tennis Program on Tuesday at Bergfeld Park.
Eight beginners were in attendance for the first group, followed by 15 intermediate players and five advanced.
Instructor Marcus Koenig said instruction focused mainly on fundamentals.
“We worked more on learning how to play, instead of just working on shots, Koenig said. “Learning about the lines and fundamentals. The third group did more strategy, match play and playing out points.”
This is the 19th installment of the award-winning program, which allows players from all skill levels an opportunity to learn the game, improve their play, and most of all — have fun.
Koenig said he can say dramatic improvement in the kids, especially the first and second groups. “You can really see after four weeks,” Koenig said. “A lot of them are becoming more consistent every day.”
The program is sponsored by Tyler Parks & Recreation Department, Tyler Morning Telegraph nd the Tyler Community Tennis Association. Free lessons will be provided until July 25.
