Blood Center Looking To Students For Help
Carter BloodCare Stewart Center hopes high school students on summer break will help replenish its supplies. Most blood types are at their lowest level, Laura Little, public relations coordinator, said.
The center will have a 12-hour marathon from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Tyler office, 815 S. Baxter Ave. Donors who give during the marathon will receive a pair of movie tickets, she said.
Although the marathon is open to all, Ms. Little said the center is offering movie tickets to attract teenagers. Donors must be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and be healthy.
High school donors in East Texas give 20 percent of the community blood supply, 10 percent higher than the national average, she said. Last summer the center began hosting marathons to encourage students to continue giving blood outside of school.
During July and August donors also will be entered into drawings to win a sports bag and American Airlines airfare for two. Visit www.carterbloodcare.org for more details.
