Orthodontist Stephens Receives Tom Matthews Award
Dr. Marvin G. Stephens Jr., an East Texas orthodontist, received the Tom Matthews Award, presented by graduates of the Baylor Orthodontic Department, during the annual Baylor Orthodontic Alumni Seminar at Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop.

The alumni present the award annually to recognize a person for exceptional loyalty, devoted friendship and meaningful advancement of orthodontics to Baylor. Dr. Tom Matthews presented the award to Stephens during the June 14 ceremony.

The award was created to honor Matthews for an outstanding job as director of the Baylor Orthodontic Clinic.

Stephens has been in private practice in Tyler, Lindale and Mineola for 35 years. He is an adjunct assistant professor at the Baylor Orthodontic Department in Dallas, where he teaches on Fridays.

He is a member of Smith County Dental Society, East Texas Dental Society, Texas Dental Association, American Dental Association, Texas Orthodontic Association, Southwestern Society of Orthodontics, American Association of Orthodontists and World Federation of Orthodontists.

Stephens is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and has held many offices in the organizations of which he has memberships.

He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists and a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists and the Texas Orthodontic Study Group.

His son, Dr. Cory Stephens, has been in practice with him for five years.
