Kilgore's Kenta Bell Earns Olympic Bid

EUGENE, Ore. — Kenta Bell is headed to China.

Bell, a 1995 graduate of Kilgore High School, finished second in the triple jump Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

His runner-up distance of 56-06 1/2 (17.23 meters) earns him a spot in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. It is Bell’s second Olympics. He finished ninth in the triple jump at the 2004 Athens Games.

Aarik Wilson, the 2007 indoor and outdoor U.S. champion finished first with a leap of 57 feet, 2 1/4 inches (17.43).

Rafeeq Curry was third at 56-05 3/4 (17.21).

The Olympic Games begin Aug. 8.
