ACHIEVEMENTS
Terry Dickey, a registered nurse with the East Texas Medical Center First Physicians Clinic in Quitman, received the State Award of Nurse practitioner Excellence for Texas during the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in Washington, D.C.
The award, founded in 1991, recognizes a nurse practitioner in a state who demonstrates excellence in practice, research, nurse practitioner education or community affairs.
Ms. Dickey, who works in association with Dr. Beverly Waddleton and Shelbi Mullins, gives frequent community and school presentations.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler announced Dr. Anna Kurdowska, an associate professor of biochemistry, was selected to serve on the Innate Im-munity and Inflamma-tion Study Section, a scientific review pa-nel, at the National Institutes of Health.

Three times a year Dr. Kurdowska will review and evaluate research grant applications submitted to the NIH by other researchers during her four-year term.
Dr. Kurdowska’s main field of study is the innate immune system and the inflammatory response of the body to infection or injury.

Francis Matlock, truck driver for Brookshire Grocery Co. in Tyler, was named Overall State Truck Driving Champion at the Texas Motor Transportation Association’s state truck driving competition June 13-14 in College Station.
Francis Matlock, truck driver for Brookshire Grocery Co. in Tyler, was named Overall State Truck Driving Champion at the Texas Motor Transportation Association’s state truck driving competition June 13-14 in College Station.
Matlock was also the first-place winner in the 5-Axle division. He qualified to compete in the American Trucking Association’s national competition set for Houston in August.
BGC truck driver Van Trimble was the Best Pre-Trip division winner. Technician David Jackson was the Tire Trouble-Shooting division winner.

These conventions and sporting events are scheduled in the Tyler area, according to the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau information. Listed in order are the dates, organizations having the conventions, hotels/motels serving as headquarters and total room nights.
