Hundreds of Methodists descended on Tyler last week, following founder John Wesley’s message of “Do all the good you can.”

The Methodist faithful set out on a mission to make life easier and brighter for their neighbors.

From minor home repair projects, clean-up efforts, painting or major renovations, teams spent the week in “work and fellowship,” said Melissa Brigman, church missions director for Marvin United Methodist Church. Marvin partners with St. Paul United Methodist Church and Pollard United Methodist Church to make one of the biggest mission outreach projects in the city.

“This is our 20th year for Mission Week and it gets bigger every year,” said Mrs. Brigman. “That’s the beauty of it. We place people where their gifts are. We want it to be fun, enjoyable for all. We even have a “Just For Kids” mission project.”

Kids signed up to build planters for people this year, she said.

Mission Week began with a kick-off dinner for volunteers at Pollard UMC, and finished with a “Neighborhood Festival” at St. Paul on Thursday.
