Beyond the Pale is one of the featured bands in this weekend's Summer Music Fest.
The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department will host the second annual Summer Music Fest on Friday and Saturday. The free, two-day event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bergfeld Park, 1510 S. College Avenue. The music fest will feature three bands, including the Paul Cauthen Project, Beyond the Pale and Randy Brown.
The Friday concert features the Paul Cauthen Project, a Tyler-area group that plays a mix of Texas bluegrass and jazz blues funk. The group has gone on tour throughout Texas, Nashville, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado and parts of Utah.
The Saturday concert will feature Beyond the Pale and Randy Brown. Beyond the Pale weaves the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland with original and contemporary songs and world instrumental pieces. The quartet plays an acoustic blend of fiddle, flute, hammered dulcimer, accordion, guitar, bodhran, whistle, concertina and saxophone.
Randy Brown will also play in the Saturday concert. He’s a songwriter/folksinger from Mineola whose new CD, Dream Big, deals with issues such as quantum mechanics (he’s for it), and homelessness (against it). The collection of 11 original songs range in style from hip-hop to folk to western to Dixieland. Brown has been a part of the acoustic music community in East Texas since the early 1990s.
