Tyler Judge Tom Ramey Jr. Receives Statewide Recognition
Judge Tom B. Ramey Jr., of Tyler, is one of four recipients of this year’s Outstanding Fifty Year Lawyer Award from the Texas Bar Foundation.
Ramey received his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 1951. He then joined Ramey & Flock, P.C., a firm his father founded, and he practiced there for more than 30 years as a litigator.
In 1989, he was elected Chief Justice of the Twelfth Court of Appeals and served there until 2000. He has returned to Ramey & Flock where he has a mediation practice. He is a past president of the State Bar of Texas and is a former delegate to the American Bar Association. He is a Charter Member and Sustaining Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
The award recognizes attorneys whose practice spanned 50 years or more, and who adhere to the highest principles and traditions of the legal profession and service to the public. The Outstanding Fifty Year Lawyer Award was the first award established by the Texas Bar Foundation.
The Bar Foundation commissioned an oral history to recognize and preserve the accomplishments of Judge Ramey’s legal career. Additionally, he will be publicly recognized and awarded a plaque at the Texas Bar Foundation annual dinner Friday at Houston .
