East Texas Bakes Under 100 Degree Temperatures
High temperatures and humidities sent the heat index values to near 100 in the area Sunday afternoon, with similarly warm weather Monday before showers and lower temperatures arrive beginning Tuesday. The highest heat index in the region Sunday afternoon was at Mineola with 102.

Tyler City, Gilmer, and Paris were close behind at 100. Tyler’s highest temperature was 95, which came at 5:09 p.m., following the day’s low of 73 at 6:33 a.m. Sunday’s was the highest temperature of the warm season thus far. Sunday’s temperatures ran about 4 degrees warmer than Saturday’s, and were the same level above normal.

Temperatures on Monday should be similar, with near normal temperatures for Tuesday and slightly below normal for Wednesday and Thursday. Low readings Sunday morning were in the 70s, and were up to 5 degrees warmer than the rain-cooled readings of Saturday morning. Low temperatures Monday through Wednesday should run in the 70s, as well, with the lowest readings likely Wednesday morning.

Afternoon high temperatures were from the lower to high 90s throughout the area, and ran about 5 degrees higher than Saturday’s. High temperatures Monday and Tuesday should be in the 90s, with middle 80s to lower 90s for Wednesday.

Skies were partly cloudy to fair overnight and through the day, with similar sky conditions for Monday and increased cloudiness for both Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds Sunday were southerly at 5-10 mph, with similar winds likely Monday and Tuesday.

, before winds shift into the northeast behind a cold front on Wednesday. Sunday’s highest sustaining wind was southwesterly at 13 mph with a peak gust of 15 mph, and an average velocity of 7.7 mph. Saturday’s average wind velocity was 8.9 mph. Sunday’s average relative humidity was 47 percent, with similar values forecast for Monday and higher values for Tuesday and Wednesday. Saturday’s average was 68 percent.
