Scholarship Honors Memory Of Robert E. Lee Student
Two local students were awarded the first Lauren Lewis Memorial Scholarship on June 6. The scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded annually to graduating seniors from Robert E. Lee High School and All Saints Episcopal School who are planning to attend Texas A&M University in College Station.
Robert E. Lee recipient, John Landes, plans to attend Texas A&M and major in business with a minor in communication. He would like to start his own business in the Tyler area. John participated in football, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life, and is a member of Green Acres Baptist Church.
All Saints recipient, Brian Robertson, plans to attend Texas A&M Business School and major in accounting. He then hopes to attend law school. Robertson participated in numerous sports at All Saints, and is a member of the Junior Symphony League.
Lauren Lewis was a 2005 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and a senior at Texas A & M University in College Station at the time of her death. Lauren was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and served her fellow students and community. She was active in the Maggie Women’s Leadership Organization of Texas A&M University and a volunteer at a local Boys & Girls Club. Scholarship recipients must demonstrate Christian character, leadership, and community service.
Lauren’s friends have established this scholarship fund as a legacy to Lauren so that deserving Robert E. Lee and All Saints graduates may be able to attend Texas A & M University.
Anyone interested in contributing to the scholarship fund may send a check to the East Texas Communities Foundation, 315 North Broadway, Suite 210, Tyler, TX 75702. Please indicate on the check that you are giving to the Lauren Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The Lauren Lewis Scholarship is one of 28 scholarships that East Texas Communities Foundation offers to East Texas students.
