June 9: We Can Produce Oil Ourselves
When I was in the third grade in the 1950s, my family moved from Central Texas to a farm in South Texas. We could see for miles all around since the terrain was flat and we were in the middle of farming country.

I distinctly remember that one night, my cousin and I went outside and counted 11 active drilling rigs. The area was in the midst of an oil boom.

At present, most of the oil and gas production in that part of Texas has stopped, but the farm land is still there, producing as much or more than ever.

It is easy for me to see an economy that is booming with oil wells and fields being developed as needed throughout the USA and the Gulf of Mexico. It makes me absolutely sick when I see us sending money to foreign countries to purchase the energy that we can produce ourselves.

Why can't the politicians see something this simple and fundamental? I don't think I will ever understand it.
