Weekend To Be A Mix Of Clouds, Sun
Widely scattered showers along with slightly lower wind velocities highlighted an otherwise warm and humid day in the region on Friday.
Light rain fell in the Tyler area at early-morning and heavier showers again around mid-day and at late-afternoon, with the airport picking up 0.22 inch and the city 0.02 inch.
The showers continued into the late-afternoon, with coverage around 25 percent, and amounts a few hundredths of an inch or less.
The upper air high pressure ridge, which built over the region on May 18, slid southward on Friday. This permitted an upper air disturbance to cross the region.
This disturbance brought a strong flow of moist air in the bottom few thousand feet of the atmosphere. The showers developed within this saturated flow.
There were a few showers over the northwest early Friday morning. These were the remnants of strong thunderstorms over West and Northwest Texas Thursday evening which formed along a cold front.
The front went stationary Friday, and will not affect East Texas.
Instead, the upper air high will begin building back over the region Saturday, suppressing shower development and keeping temperatures running several degrees above normal.
Friday’s temperatures were near Thursday’s, and were about 7 degrees above normal.
Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday should be similar.
Low readings Friday morning were from the high 70s to near 80, and were near Thursday’s.
Low readings from Saturday through Monday mornings should again be in the 70s.
