High Winds Continue With Chance For Showers Friday
Thursday was again warm and windy in the region, with decreased winds and a chance for showers forecast for Friday.

A wind advisory was again displayed for the entire region. High pressure over the Eastern United States was pushing air into a still-deepening low pressure area, centered north of Amarillo.

The result was a south wind at 15-25 mph with gusts near 35 mph during the day. Overnight gusts peaked at near 30 mph around 4 a.m. Skies were again cloudy around dawn, with the stratus layer breaking up at late-morning and partly cloudy conditions during the afternoon.

In addition to the tight pressure gradient, there was a 50-mph south wind at 5,000 feet above ground level, which mixed down to the surface, further aiding in the strong winds.

This air flow was quite moist, and a few showers developed southeast of a Lufkin-Shreveport line at late-morning. Areal coverage was under 10 percent, and amounts were a few hundredths of an inch or less at those locations which received any.

Thursday’s temperatures ran about 2 degrees warmer than Wednesday’s because of higher early-morning low readings, and were about 8 degrees above normal. Friday’s temperatures may lower a degree or so because of increased clouds, and Saturday’s readings will be near Friday’s.

Low temperatures Thursday morning were from the middle 70s to near 80. Slightly lower morning temperatures in the middle 70s are forecast for Friday through Sunday.

Afternoon high temperatures were near Thursday’s, and were in the lower to middle 90s. Temper-atures Friday through Sunday afternoons should run from near 90 to the middle 90s.

Tyler’s highest sustaining wind Thursday was southerly at 30 mph with a peak gust of 38 mph, and an average velocity of 19.3 mph. Wednesday’s average wind velocity was 17.7 mph. Thursday’s average relative humidity was 62 percent, with higher values likely Friday and lower values Saturday. Wednesday’s average was 62 percent.

Tyler’s high temperature of 92 came at 3:51 p.m., following the day’s low of 78 at 6:07 a.m.
