Graduation Announcements
  • Christopher Waggonner, of Irving, earned his Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Texas Dallas. He is the son of Cornell and Marybeth Waggonner of Tyler, and a graduate of Robert E Lee High School and the University of Texas Austin.

  • G. Dwayne McCrary Jr. from Tyler, Texas, received the doctor of educational ministry degree May 17 at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

    • McCrary Jr., minister of education at First Baptist Church of Nederland, Texas, is married to the former Lisa Rae Nicholson of Plano, Texas. He is the son of Gary D. and Carol McCrary of Tyler, Texas.

  • A total of 196 students received Baccalaureate degrees during Ouachita Baptist University’s spring commencement ceremony held on the lawn in front of Cone-Bottoms Hall. Among those who graduated were the following four students from Tyler:

    • Rachel Brown received a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in dietetics and nutrition.

    Sarah Hassell received a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in biology.

    Rachel Hughes received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in history.

    Kristin Shafer received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in accounting.

  • David J. Cook of Flint, Texas graduated from Ouachita Baptist University during May commencement exercises.

    • Cook received a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in biology.

  • Tyler resident Jerrad Howard was among 311 students receiving degrees this spring from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

    • Howard received a degree in political science.

  • Zachary Springer was a 2004 graduate of Robert E. Lee. On May 17, 2008, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kansas City Art Institute. In addition, he received the Mentorship Award in the Interdisciplinary Department. Zach will be attending Portland State University’s graduate program in Oregon this fall. He is the son of Shawn Springer-Vance, Tyler and grandson of Damon and Louise Stuart, Bullard.
