The First Ladies Drill Team Officers and dance line for the 2008-09 school year recently were selected at Whitehouse High School.

They were required to develop an individual dance routine with the music and costume of their choice. They learned a jazz routine, lyrical routine, kick routine and officer strut.

The new officers’ immediate duties included the choreography and teaching of the tryout routines for the 2008-09 drill team candidates. The new line will be led by Officers Samantha Draper (Captain), Brooke Gray (First Lieutenant), Amy Beeler, Hannah Martindale, Mallory Miner, and Sarah-Grace Sweeney.

The First Ladies are under the direction of Shelly Johnston. The officers assisted Mrs. Johnston with the drill team tryouts that were held May 2. They will attend officer camp in Dallas where they will learn and perform routines as well as perfect their technique.

The dance line candidates learned a jazz routine and a kick routine from the 2008-09 officers. They were judged on projection, appearance, flexibility, and execution of the routines by three independent judges from the East Texas area.
