BREAKING NEWS: Man Saved From Near Drowning
Tyler police say quick thinking of residents in a Tyler apartment complex allowed a man to be saved from a possible drowning.
Don Martin, Tyler Police Department public information officer, said emergency personnel responded to the Barclay Apartments, 3301 S. Broadway, on a 911 call of a possible pool drowning shortly before 9:30 this morning.
Martin said a 28-year-old male, who is autistic, was in the pool. The victim was found at the bottom of the pool by a relative. He was unresponsive.
“Several residents came to the screams for help and pulled the victim from the bottom of the pool and started CPR. An EMS employee stated that due to quick response and conducting CPR on the victim, they saved his life,” he said.
Martin said the man was transported to East Texas Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover.
“With summer just around the corner we remind everyone to observe water safety rules to prevent anyone from drowning this summer,” he said.
