About Religion & Ethics Newsweekly
The Religion & Ethics Newsweekly segment featuring the Rev. David Brown and Dr. John Robbins will air "in a few months," said producer Phil O'Conner. Interviews with members of Marvin United Methodist Church will be included. Contributing correspondent Lucky Severson who first did the story on Brown's itinerant pastoring will host the segment.
"We first did the story on Rev. Brown because he is an extraordinary and humble man," Severson on Wednesday told the Tyler Paper. "He believes that the Gospel means serving people anywhere they are found."
Severson is an Emmy Award-winning newsman formerly with NBC Nightly News. He is also a recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award and has received 10 Silver Angel Awards from Excellence in Media while working for Religion & Ethics Newsweekly.
His story on Brown was seen by Marvin's senior pastor, Dr. John Robbins in August.
"I couldn't get him out of my mind," said Robbins. The pastor called "every Brown in Monroe, La." until he located him in September. The two began a phone relationship that culminated in Wednesday's service at Marvin. Robbins concurred with Severson's assessment of Brown.
"He is so very humble," Robbins said. "Here is a man with little visible means of support, who gets up every day to share the Gospel with those who would have no pastor, if not for him. He has no health insurance, no retirement plan, no steady salary. None of that stops him. He's the kind of man I'd like to have as a best friend."
Show times for Religion & Ethics Newsweekly featuring the Rev. David Brown at Marvin United Methodist Church, will be published in the Tyler Paper as information becomes available.
