Texas State Railroad Palestine Depot To Commemorate Martial History
PALESTINE - During the Armed Forces Weekend through Sunday, military displays and history exhibits will be on view at the Palestine depot of Texas State Railroad.

Lori Kastrop, the railroad's marketing managers said special activities during the weekend include:

  • Military train exhibit with World War II vintage military vehicles on flatbed cars;

  • Small arms demonstrations of various types of weapons used from different periods of military history;

  • Mock WWII battles choreographed by the Texas Military Historical Society;

  • Civilian aviation helicopters on display;

  • 20 mm gun mount from the Battleship Texas;

  • Living history exhibits from 1850s Texas Forts Period, Civil War and Buffalo Soldiers, Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, & present day military.

  • There will also be UH-1E Huey helicopter rides on Saturday and Sunday. The helicopter served in Vietnam with Marine Squadrons VMO-2 and VMO-6 as a gunship.

    The annual event honors men and women who serve and have served our country.
