County Introducing Money-Saving Cooperative Purchasing Agreement
Smith County will hold a reception today for other taxing entities to introduce a cooperative purchasing agreement that could save money by allowing local governments to make their purchases of things, such as road materials and fuel, in bulk.
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is expected to last until 11 a.m.
“This project has the potential to save Smith County and other local governments hundreds of thousands of dollars over a five- to 10-year period,” County Judge Joel Baker says.
Smith County Purchasing Director Kelli Davis has been the driving force behind the project.
“Forming a team of purchasing officials interested in cooperative efforts will lead to significant cost savings,” she said.
All cities within Smith County, both of the Emer-gency Services Districts and even some municipalities from outside the county have been invited to attend today’s reception.
“We want to work with other local taxing entities to streamline the purchasing process and make it more efficient for the taxpayers,” says Commissioner JoAnn Flem-ing.
The meeting will take place on the first floor of the Smith County Courthouse Annex, 200 E. Ferguson St.
