Sunshine Returns To East Texas Today
For the second night in a row, severe thunderstorms and flooding rains pummeled parts of East Texas.
Wednesday night’s installment affected locations along and about 30 miles south of IH-30 also hit Tuesday night, and locations south of a Centerville-Lufkin-Center line which escaped heavy thunderstorms Tuesday night and Wednesday.
In Tyler, light rain fell between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., with an almost constant rumble of thunder beginning around 1:30 a.m.
The city picked up 0.13 inch, for a three-day storm total of 3.15 inches. The airport received 0.03 inch, bringing the total to 3.25 inches, while Longview received 0.19 inch, for 5.87 inches.
Wednesday night’s storms were the result of the same slow-moving upper air low responsible for Tuesday night’s. A cold front, which moved through the region during the pre-dawn hours, en-hanced some of the thunderstorms to severe limits. After the front crossed, activity came to an end.
A brief period of clearing and locally dense fog at Pounds Field lowered visability to one-fourth mile for about 30 minutes around 7 a.m. was followed by cloudy, cool and breezy conditions.
Thursday’s temperatures averaged about 5 degrees cooler than Wednesday’s, and about 7 degrees below normal.
Friday’s temperatures should average near Thursday, with warming close to normal values for Saturday before temperatures go above normal Sunday.
Low temperatures Thursday morning were from the high 50s in the northwest to the high 60s in the south.
