Free Kids Baseball Today At Mike Carter Field
The NJCAA Division III World Series festivities will begin today with a free kids clinic at Mike Carter Field.
The clinic will start at 6 p.m. and run for about 90 minutes.
Tyler Junior College head coach Jon Groth said each participating team will provide a coach and two or three players to help with drills. There will be eight stations set up.
“We had a ball with this last year on a number of different levels,” Groth said. “On one level, the kids get to interact with some of these guys that are going to play for a national championship. That’s one thing that’s really exciting for the little guys, to rub elbows and go and out and do drills with some really good college players.
“The second thing that was neat was that the players are in a non-threatening environment with each other. There were certain teams that kind of got friendly with one another in terms of just knowing each other, and it all starts (with the clinic).”
Last year’s event attracted about 50 kids, and tournament officials said they would love to top that figure.
