Say Goodbye Rain, Hello Cooler Temperatures
Torrential rains and severe weather were widespread in East Texas overnight and Wednesday morning, and more of the same is likely before the activity moves out Thursday.

Rainfall amounts range from two to six inches, with 10.52 inches falling in Shreveport at the Regional Airport.

Tyler picked up a two-day storm total of 3.02 inches, while the airport measured a storm total of 3.22 inches. Longview measured 5.68 inches for the two days.

The rain came to an end in Tyler at late-morning. Most of that which fell came between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., with rain falling at a rate of about 1.5 inches per hour.

Skies cleared briefly at early-afternoon, with cloudiness returning at late-afternoon.

Showers and thunderstorms were beginning to re-develop over South Central and West Central Texas at 5 p.m.

These should move through the region between midnight and late-morning Thursday.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1.0 to 2.0 inches are likely, with a possible occurrence of severe weather in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday.

A stronger cold front Thursday morning should end the rain as an upper air low, which came into range Tuesday mid-day, goes out of range Thursday.

Wednesday's temperatures ran about 3 degrees lower than on Tuesday, and were about 2 degrees below normal.

Temperatures Thursday should be similar, with readings Friday running about 5 degrees cooler.

Low temperatures Wednesday morning were in the 60s to near 70 near those of Tuesday.

Temperatures Thursday morning should again be in the 60s, with Friday low readings in the 50s.

Afternoon temperatures Wednesday were from near 70 where clearing did not occur to near 80 across the southwest.

High readings both Thursday and Friday should be in the 70s.

Winds were variable and gusty near the stronger thunderstorms, but were otherwise easterly at 5-15 mph. Winds will become northwesterly Thursday behind the cold front, and continue northwesterly Friday.

Tyler's highest sustaining wind Wednesday was southerly at 26 mph with a peak gust of 32 mph, and an average velocity of 11.9 mph.

Wednesday's average humidity was 77 percent, with similar values likely Thursday and lower values Friday.
