UT Tyler’s Jennings Tied For Ninth At Men’s Golf National Championships
BRASELTON, Ga. — UT Tyler junior Brian Jennings is tied for ninth place after the first day of play in the 2008 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championships at the Chateau Elan Resort.
Jennings reached the tournament as one of just five individual qualifiers from all of Division III.
Jennings finished the 7,030 yard, par 71 Ch?teau course with a 2-over 73. He birdied holes No. 1, 4 and 15. Holes one and four are par 4, while hole No. 15 is a par 5. Jennings finished the day with three birdies, 10 pars and five bogies.
The junior from Bullard will move to the par 71, 6,735 yard Woodlands course on Wednesday where he will tee off from hole No. 1 at 6:39 a.m. CDT.
After Wednesday’s round, the field will be trimmed to the top 23 teams and the top five individuals not on the 23 qualifying teams. Play for Thursday’s third round and Friday’s final round will move back to the Ch?teau course.
The University of La Verne (Calif.) leads the team portion with a 291, 10 strokes ahead of Skidmore (N.Y.) College (301). Rounding out the top five are St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College (302), Redlands (Calif.) 304, and Linfield (Ore.) 304.
Individually, Scott Harris Jr. of St. John Fisher College leads with a 3-under 68, one stroke ahead of Max Bonk of Pacific University who carded a 2-under 69. Ross Canavan of Redlands is third at 70.
