UT Tyler Duo Gets Accolades In All-American Southwest Conference Softball Team

UT Tyler’s Lindsey Peters, who has played in every game in the history of the Patriots softball program, and Megan “Roo” Richardson, a junior transfer, received two of the top East Division awards on the All-American Southwest Conference team, league officials announced.

Peters and Richarsdon were two of 11 Patriots honored by the conference.

Peters, a senior from Shreveport, La., shared ASC East Division Player of the Year honors with Louisiana College catcher Erica Harwell.

The Patriots second baseman led UT Tyler with a .432 regular season batting average, to go along with 53 runs, 67 hits, 15 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 51 RBIs, 24 walks and eight stolen bases.

Peters, who attended Huntington High School, was also named to the ASC All-Tournament team.

Richardson, who was named Newcomer of the Year, came to UT Tyler from Metro State College in Colorado and made quite an impact in her first season in the ASC. Richardson broke the ASC single-season RBI record with 59 during the regular season. The old mark was 53. Richardson had a .362 regular season batting average, with 37 runs, 50 hits, 13 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 21 walks and four stolen bases.

Richardson, who played first base, attended Skyline High School in Platteville, Colo.

East Texas Baptist University senior Ashley Saulters, who played at Van High School, was named to the first team as a designated player. She hit .373 with a home run and 21 RBIs for the Tigers.

Joining Peters and Richardson on the All-ASC East first team were freshman third baseman Sara DeStefano (Franklin), sophomore outfielder Julie Smith (Huffman), sophomore utility player Carly Collins (Ennis) and freshman pitcher Kelsey Harrington (Texarkana).

Earning All-ASC East second team honors was sophomore shortstop Amanda Busby (Elysian Fields), junior designated player Kate Bell (Forney) and freshman pitcher Stacy Shepherd (Houston).

Freshman catcher Brittanni Hanna (Mesquite) and senior outfielder Kristen Akin-Henton (Longview Spring Hill) rounded out the awards for UT Tyler by earning All-ASC East honorable mention.

UT Tyler had a record year with a school record for wins (43) and earning its first NCAA postseason bid in the first year of eligibility.

Earning the other top awards in the East were Louisiana College’s McCaslin Carson (Pitcher of the Year), LC’s Ren? Schwartzenburg (Freshman of the Year and LC’s Tim Whitman (Coach of the Year). Carson is a junior, while Schwartzenburg is a freshman.

Other first teamers were senior shortstop Amber Griffin of UT Dallas, senior catcher Harwell of Louisiana College, senior outfielder Jessica Thompson of Louisiana College, senior outfielder Michelle Cochran of Mississippi College, junior designated player Carter Ryan of UT Dallas, Carson and Schwartzenburg.

Area players making the second team were LeTourneau senior second baseman Lindsay Haywood (Longview Spring Hill), East Texas Baptist junior outfielder Brandi Harris (Van), and East Texas Baptist senior outfielder Jamie Molling (Nacogdoches).

Rounding out the second team were Mississippi College freshman first baseman Lauren Coleman, Louisiana College senior third baseman Lacee Chruma, Ozarks senior catcher Chelsea Joslin, Mississippi College senior utility player Adrienne Ard, Mississippi College senior pitcher Katie Perry and East Texas Baptist junior pitcher Chelsea Trochta.

Area players making honorable mention were Le Tourneau freshman catcher Kylie Packard of Lindale, East Texas Baptist junior shortstop Faith Meriwether, ETBU freshman third baseman Meghan Fisher, Le Tourneau freshman outfielder Crissy Simmons, ETBU sophomore utility player Adrienne Meier, Le Tourneau junior pitcher Brooke Frazier and ETBU freshman pitcher Kaleigh Mushinski.

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor took the top two awards in the West — Kacie Kripner, a senior catcher from San Antonio, was named the West Division Player of the Year, while Daphne Kahlig, a senior from Lott, was the Pitcher of the Year.

Other West winners were Concordia junior third baseman Megan Pulido of Austin (Newcomer of the Year) and Concordia freshman shortstop Jessica Rattan of Austin (Freshman of the Year).

Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Kasey Blomquist and Concordia’s Kathy Pittman and Stan Warren, shared Coach of the Year honors.
