More Storms Expected In Area Today
Rain and thunderstorms are likely in the area Wednesday into Thursday morning. There is the risk for severe weather Wedn-esday afternoon and evening, and for heavy rainfall, especially over the northern counties.
Showers and thunderstorms were scattered over the area Tue-sday. A shower fell in Tyler around noon, with the city picking up 0.07 inch. Rain began falling in Tyler about 4:45 p.m., with the city receiving an additional 0.38 inch.
Temperatures ran about 12 degrees warmer than on Monday, and about 2 degrees above normal. Temperatures Wednesday and Thursday should stay a couple of degrees above normal.
Low readings Tuesday morning were from the middle 60s to lower 70s. These were up to 20 degrees above Monday’s. Low readings on both Wednesday and Thursday mornings should run near 70.
Afternoon highs were from near 80 to the middle 80s. High readings Wednesday will be near Tuesday’s, with slightly lower high temperatures Thursday behind a new cold front.
Tyler’s high temperature Tuesday of 82 came at 3:11 p.m., following the day’s low of 66 at 4:23 a.m.
Cold air above 5,000 feet altitude suggests a severe weather event is possible Wednesday afternoon and evening in East Texas. A strong moist air in-flow, intersecting the path of thunderstorms along Red River, could produce rains of 4.0 to 5.0 inches there. With less favorable track lines in the Tyler area, rains should run between 1.0 and 2.0 inches. These should not be enough to overwhelm drainages.
