'Students Making a Change' Organizing at John Tyler High School
A new student organization at John Tyler High School devoted to making a positive change within the student body held a rally at the school this morning.

Members of SMAC — Students Making A Change — passed out buttons and displayed signs, said information from Tyler ISD.

“My goal is for the students to feel empowered to change their school,” said club sponsor and John Tyler teacher Angie Tellman, said in a prepared statement. “They can’t wait for others to do it for them.”

SMAC will meet at John Tyler every Friday at 8 a.m. for 30 minutes. The group shares a behavior expectations list for members that includes goals such as to be positive, be on time, avoid conflict and use good manners. Students will also share success stories of how they are changing their school in a positive way.
