Storms Rolling Through Today, Wednesday
After another pleasant day Monday, wet and unsettled weather is likely in the region during the remainder of the week. A new upper air low pressure area was setting up shop over the Southwestern United States, and was likely to become cut off from the main upper air wind patterns.
This means that it will likely drift slowly eastward, with numerous disturbances associated with it. The first significant one of these should come within range of East Texas by Tuesday afternoon.
In the meantime, low-level moisture was surging northward across South Central Texas.
That should reach East Texas during the early-morning hours of Tuesday. This will result in much higher humidities beginning Tuesday morning, and provide moisture for scattered showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon.
There is a slight risk for severe weather Tuesday night, and likely a greater risk Wednesday.
A cold front will drop into North Texas early Wednesday, and likely move through East Texas Wednesday afternoon or evening. This should bring a higher likelihood for severe thunderstorms to East Texas at that time.
If severe weather develops Tuesday night, the greatest risk would probably be very large hail. If the Wednesday severe development happens, then large hail and damaging winds could occur.
Rainfall with the slow-moving storm is also likely to be heavy. Amounts of 1.5 to 2.5 inches are probable between Tuesday afternoon and whenever the storm finally moves out of range.
