Tyler Junior College To Host NJCAA Women's Soccer Tournament In 2009
Tyler Junior College and SPORTyler will hold the NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer National Championships in November 2009, the NJCAA National Office announced Thursday.

“This is great news for TJC and the City of Tyler,” said TJC athletic director Dr. Tim Drain. “With the beginning of our women’s soccer program, and the great facility we have in Pat Hartley Field, it was natural for us to pursue this opportunity.”

The men’s national tournament has been at TJC since 2001, but the event is now on a three-year rotation and will not return to Tyler until 2010.

“It is my goal that we could perhaps enter into a similar rotation with the women’s tournament, so that every three years we would have both the men’s and the women’s championships, and then an off year,” Drain said.

Cindy Smoak, assistant vice president of SPORTyler, said “this is a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful city of Tyler and TJC’s excellent facilities. We will host the top eight teams from across the United States during this four-day event.”
