READY TO RUN: Madilynn Trimble, 6, and her father Jason Trimble register for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Broadway Square Mall on Thursday.
Registration will continue at 6:30 a.m. today for those who still want to participate in the 10th annual Susan G. Komen Tyler Race for the Cure.
Events will take place today at Bergfeld Park on South Broadway Avenue.
Thousands are expected to participate, organizers said.
“The Komen Race Series is the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer. The race attracts people of all ages and fitness levels. Although most participants choose to walk or jog, elite runners are also drawn to this event. All Komen Race for the Cure courses are certified by USA Track and Field. The first 5,000 registrants are guaranteed a T-shirt,” said Ellen Peirce, Komen Tyler media relations.
Breast cancer survivors are celebrated through the National Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program.
“Breast cancer survivors who wish to be recognized wear complimentary pink caps and T-shirts. In addition, all participants are encouraged to wear ‘In Memory Of’ and ‘In Honor Of’ back signs, honoring loved ones for their strength and courage. This is one of the signature traditions that makes the Komen Race for the Cure Series so unique,” Mrs. Peirce said.
Registration on race day costs $30. The $50 “In the Pink” package includes reserved parking, race entry and a gift. The cost for children, ages 12 and younger, is $15. Children 8 and under can participate in the kid’s dash at 7:45 a.m.
Breast cancer survivors are invited to a free breakfast at 7 a.m. Survivors will form a pink ribbon for a group photo at 7:45 a.m.
The 1-mile co-ed fun run/walk begins at 8 a.m. The 5K co-ed run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m. The awards ceremony starts at 9:45 a.m.
Bergfeld Park will be filled with many activities and booths from sponsors on race day. The Komen boutique will be available for shoppers, and there will be a special children’s activities area. UPS will check purses, strollers, etc., for race participants
