Expect Cooler Weather Toward End Of Weekend
Tyler’s temperature reached 90 in the city at mid-afternoon, the first time since Oct. 8. If things are as usual this summer, the city can expect about 125 more such days.
A weak cold front was moving through the area Friday afternoon. North of the boundary, high temperatures were in the middle 80s, while high 80s to lower 90s were common south of it.
At 3 p.m., the boundary ran along a Clarksville-Hillsboro line. It may lower Saturday’s high temperatures by a degree or so, but otherwise a few hours of wind shift into the northwest is about all the region can expect.
A much stronger cold front is due into the region Saturday night. In fact, this system will likely generate some snow over Eastern Montana and Western North Dakota Friday night and Saturday. In East Texas, it should drop temperatures to below normal levels for Sunday and Monday, after a round of showers and thunderstorms Saturday evening.
Friday’s temperatures ran about 5 degrees above Thursday’s, and about 6 degrees warmer than normal. Saturday’s temperatures should be similar, with readings falling by about 10 degrees Sunday.
Low readings Friday morning were from the high 50s in the northeast to the middle 60s in the south. These were a few degrees warmer than on Thursday. Low temperatures Saturday morning should run from the lower 60s to near 70, while Sunday morning low readings will range from the high 50s to middle 60s.
Friday’s high temperatures were up to 10 degrees above Thursday’s. High readings Saturday should be a degree or so lower, with highs Sunday from the middle 70s to near 80.
Friday’s high temperature of 91 at 4:06 p.m. was not a record. That honor remains with 1941, when the mercury reached 95. Friday’s low of 63 came at 6:38 a.m.
Friday’s average relative humidity was 68 percent, with similar values likely Saturday and lower values Sunday. Thursday’s average was 66 percent.
Areal coverage with thunderstorms forecast with Saturday night’s cold front should run between 40 percent and 50 percent, with rainfall amounts averaging one-fourth to one-half inch.
There is a slight risk for severe weather, which would most likely come in the form of damaging straight-line winds due to very dry air a few thousand feet above ground level. The activity is most likely during the evening hours of Saturday.
