BREAKING NEWS: Lindale Mayor Dies At Age 67
MAYOR BALLARD
LINDALE — Mayor James Elmer Ballard, a selfless man who gave to his community through ministry and leadership, died Saturday morning at Mother Frances Hospital at the age of 67.
Ballard died around 9 a.m. following his admission to the Ornelas ICU with congestive heart failure earlier this week.
Ballard was elected mayor of Lindale in May 2006 and became the "peacemaker," by bringing his calm demeanor to the council, allowing mutual respect for ideas and points of view to be shared, many of the council members said. They used the same words to describe Ballard — "calm," "kind," "man of integrity" and "diplomatic." Member Ginger Sims said Ballard left a strong impression with her in the short time she knew and worked with him. She said his compassion for people and his integrity will be greatly missed.
"He was a calming presence," she said. "He gave us the ability to work together and respect each other's opinions and it helped us get things done for the city."
