KELSEY KIPP is a senior at Robert E. Lee
Kelsey Kipp of Robert E. Lee capped her high school golf career recently with a third-consecutive District 12-5A title and a top 5 finish at the Class 5A regional tournament.

She now sets her sights on a new prize — the first ever Tyler Rose Junior Invitational May 17-18 at Eagles Bluff Country Club in Bullard.

The Tyler Rose Junior Invitational is sponsored by SporTyler, the

Tyler Morning Telegraph and HealthFirst.

The tourney is a stop on the Texas Junior Golf Tour.

Since beginning in 1989, the TJGT has expanded to 40 events and not only includes golfers from the Southwest, but internationally as well.

Kipp has been a regular top 5 finisher this season on the TJGT. She took second in the Thanksgiving Classic in November at The Oaks Golf Course in The Woodlands. Kipp followed that with a third-place in the TJGT Tour Championship held Feb. 9-10, also at the Oaks Course. Kipp has placed fourth four times, including in her last TJGT appearance at the Spring Preview at Bear Creek Golf Club last month in Dallas.

Kipp has signed a scholarship to play golf at University of Missouri-Kansas City.

She’s been a four-year Class 5A regional qualifier and narrowly missed out on getting to state this year. The senior tied for third, but lost in a playoff.

Kipp enters play as a favorite due to her success in tournaments held at area courses.

In last year’s Tylerpaper.com Championship, Kipp carded 74-78—152 to win the event by one stroke. She also won junior events in 2006 held at Oakhurst and Hollytree.

On the TJGT this year, Kipp’s finishes places her 13th in the standings for Player of the Year.

The Tyler Rose Junior Invitational is 36 holes.

Golfers, both male and female, age 12-18 will be entered.

The tournament offers exemptions into the American Junior Golf Association tournaments and is a Golfweek-ranked event.
