Brookshires Donating $30,000 In Groceries To Food Drive
Brookshire Grocery Co. will donate $30,000 in groceries to East Texas Food Bank to launch Saturday’s National Association of Letter Carriers’ “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.
A presentation is set for 10:15 a.m. today at the food bank, 3201 Robertson Road, said the food bank.
Brookshire’s also donated thousands of grocery bags that letter carriers delivered to households on Thursday. Residents are asked to fill the bags with non-perishable foods — such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal — and place them next to mailboxes on Saturday to be picked up by letter carriers.
Donated food should be in non-breakable containers.
“We are grateful for Brookshire’s steadfast support the past 20 years,” Robert Bush, executive director of the food bank, said in a statement from the food bank. “This food donation comes at a critical time as food and fuel prices are rising and we want to ensure that this food gets to those who need it most.”
It is the 16th year for the Letter Carriers Drive, said Tyler Postmaster Fred Arrambidez.
“Postal carriers are a vital thread in every community throughout the United States,” he said in a prepared statement. “That is why our response to this socio-economic need is so extremely important.”
