46-Year-Old Arrested For Sexual Assault Of 14-Year-Old Girl
JACKSONVILLE — Police arrested a man Monday for the sexual assault of a 14-year-old Jacksonville girl after confessing that he engaged in sexual contact with the child.
Otis Taylor Jr., 46, of Jacksonville, the ex-boyfriend of the victim’s mother, was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child. Detective Tonya Sontag said the initial investigation began Saturday afternoon when police received a call from the victim’s mother, who was out of town visiting relatives at the time, and reported that her daughter had been sexually assaulted. Ms. Sontag said the mother left her two 14-year-old daughters at home Saturday when she and other members of the family drove to Dallas for the day. The mother told Taylor to check in on the girls from time to time during the day, Ms. Sontag said.
One of the girls had gone to one end of the house while the other lay down to take a nap and was joined by Taylor. According to the victim, as they lay together on the bed, conversation escalated into sexual assault.
The victim told investigators Taylor sexually assaulted her and left the residence. After the alleged incident, the victim told her sister, locked the doors of the house and called her mother, who then called the police, Ms. Sontag said.
Police were notified 30 minutes after the alleged incident occurred, Ms. Sontag said. There were no other wounds or bruises on the girl’s body, and Ms. Sontag said the girl did not fight back because she was scared.
Taylor initially told police he only talked to the girl “like a father would,” Ms. Sontag said. After extensive questioning over the weekend and on Monday, Taylor admitted to detectives that he had touched the victim in a sexual manner, which allowed police to make an arrest.
Police administered a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner kit after the incident and sent the potential evidence to the Texas Department of Safety forensics lab in Garland on Tuesday. Ms. Sontag said results from the lab will take at least a few weeks, maybe months. Taylor was arraigned Tuesday and his bond was set at $25,000.
