Brook Hill's 'King and I' Bows Tonight
The elegance of a Far East palace will come to Tyler's Bergfeld Park amphitheater tonight when The Brook Hill School Fine Arts department presents its eighth annual spring musical production, the Rogers and Hammerstein classic, "The King and I,'' school officials announced.
Curtain time is 8 p.m. and the show runs about three hours with an intermission. There is no admission charge.
The well known musical is based on the book "Anna and the King of Siam" by Margaret Landon and features songs such as "Getting to Know You,'' "I Have Dreamed'' and "Shall We Dance.''
Director Glenn Ballard said patrons will be impressed with a strong cast.
"I am so excited about the cast we have put together for our production,'' he said. "The role of the king of Siam is being created by a very fine actor, senior Cody Franklin.''
He played the role of Buffalo Bill Cody in last year's "Annie Get Your Gun.''
Franklin's female lead is Anna Mae Stevens in the role of Mrs. Anna Leonowens, the English school teacher.
Other cast members include Erica Eden as Tuptim, Landry Humphries as Lun Tha.
"But even more satisfying is the fact that we have included several of our international students in this play which will give it an authentic Asian flavor,'' Ballard said. "Senior Christine Feng from China will play the role of head wife Lady Thiang, and Woon Ji Choi from South Korea will be our principle dancer.''
Costumes have been designed by Rebecca Ballard and several Brook Hill moms have assisted in their construction. Jill Swink of Jacksonville has designed the choreography for the show and Judy Seamands has designed sets and backdrops.
In the event of rain, the play will be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call the school office at 903-894-5000 or e-mail gballard@brookhill.org.
