May 8: Right To Vote
As a first generation American, I deeply value my right to vote - something I was not privileged to exercise in Iran. I hold this honor near and dear - to be able to cast a vote and have it actually be counted. It's sad that many Americans don't participate in this glorious process.

It would be disheartening to have my vote determined by the authorities in charge like in Iran. Current national news is preoccupied daily with the dilemma that one candidate enjoys more popular votes and delegate votes; however, the party bosses could even sway their nomination to another candidate. If this situation alarms you, you don't have to look nationally, but at the city hall in Tyler.

Council members' decision to unnecessarily attempt to influence the will of the public is a bitter reminder of what takes place in a third world country. I am proud to live in America and I will continue to believe my vote and the will of the people will prevail.

Wouldn't it have been preferable for the five council members to say, "We will support the mayor chosen by the citizens," rather than the mayor of our choosing?
