Letter Carriers’ 16th Annual Food Drive Saturday
Mail carriers say they need the public’s help to Stamp out Hunger during the postal service’s annual food drive this weekend.

The National Association of Letter Carriers in Tyler will collect food donations Saturday during the 16th annual “Stamp out Hunger Food Drive.” Last year, the letter carriers collected 43,461 pounds of food for community food banks, pantries and shelters, according to a prepared statement from Tyler Postmaster Fred Arrambidez.

The Stamp out Hunger effort is the nation’s largest single-day food drive.

Donors are asked to leave nonperishable food items in a sturdy bag next to their mailboxes prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday. Food should be in nonbreakable containers such as boxes and cans. Letter carriers will collect the items and deliver them to the East Texas Food Bank.

“Postal carriers are a vital thread in every community throughout the United States,” Arrambidez said. “That is why our response to this socio-economic need is so extremely important. Our goal this year is to collect more than 60,000 pounds and our carriers are committed to exceeding this goal to answer the call the Stamp out Hunger. We are counting on the community to help us Stamp out Hunger by filling up the sack on Saturday …”
